Meet Omara

I’m a Specialist Counselling Psychologist, who is an expert in treating eating disorders and work in private practice in the prestigious Harley Street, London. I have devoted my NHS career to learning about and treating eating disorders and adult mental health issues.  I work with adults and young people across the full spectrum of eating disorders:

  • Anorexia nervosa
  • Bulimia nervosa
  • Binge eating
  • Disordered eating
  • Emotional Eating
  • Orthorexia/Clean Eating
  • Dietetic advice
  • Couples therapy
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Low self esteem
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Stress
  • Offering consultation and supervision to other health professionals

For over a decade, I have been using my expert knowledge, compassionate approach, and empathy to skilfully help people through difficult times in their lives. Currently in my private practice I have the privilege of working with a diverse group of clients from all backgrounds, each at different stages of their recovery and growth. Regardless of who I work with, whether they are a celebrity or teen with disordered eating or depression, my approach is always tailored to the individual needs of the person.

It is my mission to help as many people as I can in their recovery from an eating disorder and in their journey to better mental health. My practice and knowledge is supported by extensive experience of working not only in the NHS but also private healthcare in the Priory and voluntary sector. I have worked with a wide range of mental health issues including depression, trauma, childhood sexual abuse, personality disorders, substance misuse, anxiety disorders, burnout, low self-esteem, stress, panic, and other conditions. I have an interest in helping minority background groups and underrepresented groups such as men or the LGBTQIA population.

Why Work With Me

I am a Counselling Psychologist chartered by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).

I am passionate about helping others in a relatable and personable way, supporting people through tough times, and giving them the best tools available to build resilience and confidence. My personal experience of being Scottish from a BAME background helps me keep an integrative and curious stance where I consider culture an important factor in understanding a person. We are all complex with our own experiences and I make a point of getting to know my clients well to fully understand them and how to tailor therapy for them. For this reason, I work with a limited number of clients at any one time in order to ensure they get the best care possible.

My extensive clinical training has seen me working across the full range of services during my time in the NHS, from primary care and intensive inpatient hospital units, transition wards and the award-winning South London and Maudsley Outpatient eating disorders team.  I work using evidence-based treatments in accordance with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines implemented in the NHS. I offer a safe space to work together towards goals and positive change.

MY THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Maudsley Model of Anorexia Treatment in Adults (MANTRA)
  • First Episode Rapid and Early Intervention Service – FREED
  • Specialist Supportive Clinical Management – SSCM

Client Testimonials

Omara helped me work through my eating disorder to get to a healthier weight whilst enabling me to develop my own mental health ‘toolkit’ for the future.
Omara is friendly and approachable whilst always maintaining a very professional manner. It felt as though the sessions and treatment were tailored and specific to my circumstances.
It has been a privilege to experience therapy and to have you as a therapist has been a delight.
I know it will be okay because I have the tools I need and I am no longer so scared of using them. Nor am I afraid of the future.
I never believed I would get to this point of recovery, yet here we are. Thank you.

It’s never too late to seek help
